Cessna Sovereign 680 Pacific air ambulance

New jet increases range of Pacific air ambulance

Medical evacuation services are now available across many of the popular destinations for Superyachts sailing among the tropical islands of the South Pacific, thanks to the launch of a jet air ambulance service in New Zealand. The aircraft completed its first successful operation earlier this month.

Skyline Aviation’s Cessna Sovereign 680 jet flew from its base in Napier to the island of Vanuatu to collect a patient in early July. Thanks to an onboard medical team and full intensive care facilities, they were able to provide inflight treatment throughout the direct flight from Port Vila, before delivering the patient to a hospital in Auckland.

With a range of 3,000 nautical miles, the new addition to Skyline’s fleet has massively increased the reach of their air ambulance service. Superyacht owners and guests can now receive medical assistance and evacuation to a New Zealand hospital from Fiji, French Polynesia and Vanuatu, among other popular islands.

“An important thing that this jet is able to provide is it has a very good short field capability. We can land on and take off from very short runways, which is quite unusual for a jet in this performance category,” said Mike Toogood, managing director of Skyline Aviation.

“This aircraft is also fitted with two life-port stretchers, which means we can take two clinical teams and take two critically ill patients at the same time, together with some family members,” he added.
